Heeeeere’s Earl…

September 2, 2010

It is with mixed feelings that I watch the progress of Earl up the East Coast.  The play we took to EMACT earlier this summer was set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina…one of the scenes featured our race to get packed up and out of the cabin before the oncoming hurricane hit…wonder how many holidaymakers in the Outer Banks actually evacuated yesterday when ordered to.  Would you?  The weather folks are saying that we in upper New England will see the effects of what should be a Category 1 or 2 storm by the time it gets here…the Cape will be hit hard and it looks like northern Maine/southeasternmost Canada will be bracing for the worst, as well.  The rest of us will probably just enjoy rain and wind.  I’ll keep you posted.

I have a strange love of hurricanes. I remember growing up on the coast of Maine and feeling the rush of an impending hurricane. We would usually need to go down to the docks and check our boat, and at times we were actually weathering the storm ON the boat, which was especially exhilarating. Of course, I hope no one gets hurt and the damage is minimal… but I still retain a bit of the “storm chaser” in me from my childhood.

I’m reading this at 9:45 pm and so far, in Southern NH, nothing. No rain, no wind yet.
