Politics alert…I didn’t mean to, but I do go on a bit about politics below…

Here I lie, in my bed, surrounded by 10 days worth of my husband’s clothing, as he packs for a trip.  On TV is Morning Joe, I have already scanned my online NYTimes and am caught up on email.  It has rained for days and this morning dawned dreary and drippy.  I really need to get up and get ready for work, but I don’t wanna!!!!!

We (mostly my husband) have spent the last couple of weeks trying to reconstruct and resurrect our home desktop.  Service Pack 3 crashed the computer and although we are now able to boot in other than safe mode, we can’t do much else because it keeps finding missing drivers that can’t be loaded in the computer’s current state.  ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH….all we want to do is get the contents of my husband’s IPod uploaded into ITunes on that computer…is that so much to ask???

The news is grim this morning…bank failures are not restricted to the US…lenders in the UK and Belgium are in chaos.  While our congress has come up with something that certain economists say might take us through the November election (???), no one seems happy with any “solution” yet proposed.  Sarah Palin was skewered again on SNL.  I don’t care what your political leanings are, but how can this country elect McCain when Palin would be in place to become PRESIDENT????  Smart, good looking, but not ready to be President.

And, worst of all, Josh Beckett strained an oblique yesterday and won’t be ready to pitch game one of the playoff series.  Woe is us!

Jumble…

My attention has been so scattered lately, it has been hard to settle down to blog.  We have been glued to MSNBC and other news outlets for news on the economy and the election campaigns.  Plus, the Red Sox season is winding down, while the Patriots are winding up.  Tom Brady is gone, which makes watching the Pats a much more stressful exercise.  I’m rehearsing for Steel Magnolias…learning lines is always an adventure.  Plus, my community theater group is furiously busy mounting the first show of the 2008-2009 season (Dracula, which opens on Halloween), which means I am furiously working on the program, plus feeling guilty because I should be selling ads and selling ads is what I am WORST at!

Work is so quiet…I love working with my solo practitioner attorney, but real estate conveyancing is a dismal business right now…we’ll be ready when business picks up again, but it is really dreary these days.

I have very strong personal feelings about the candidates, but I usually keep them to myself.  Right now, though, I cannot restrain myself.  Sarah Palin seems like a smart, capable young woman, but OHMYGOSH, she is not ready to be Vice President or, heaven forefend, PRESIDENT.  Her interview with Katie Couric last night was just the most recent and glaring evidence of someone in the wrong place at the wrong time.  How can we not be the laughingstock of the world?  John McCain is, at least, a respected war veteran, former POW, long-term Senator.  I may not agree with his politics, but he is a respectable option.  But there is no way that I could EVER vote for him with Sarah Palin as second in line to the Presidency.  And the saddest part is that doesn’t even touch on how wrong I find her politics and her beliefs.  Okay, end of rant.

So freakin’ cute…

I am the first to admit it.  I am a cat lover.  My parents were given a siamese cat as a wedding present, so cats have paved the way in my life.  I could just never take to dogs the same way…dogs are way too high maintenance for me.  I am so loving these kittens…they are a HOOT!  They are so totally uninhibited in their play…they stalk each other, pouncing and wrassling and flipping with abandon.  Then they collapse into puddles of sleep.  I could spend the whole day watching them.

Now, the problem…they are as yet unnamed…kind of.  Sunday morning, after hours of tossing names into the air, my dear, dear husband decided to call them Jump (she flies through the air with the greatest of ease) and Jehosaphat…say it together and it sounds like Jumpin Jehosaphat.  And that was it for him.  He wants me to pick their “real” names, but he pointed out, rightly I might add, that our cats are never called by their real names anyway.  So, this has taken some of the luster, some of the joy of research out of this naming process.

Last night, I settled on Puck (the greyer one with the funny face) and Phoebe (the whiter one with the great coloring).  We’ll see if that sticks to them.  I will not have these cats going through life thinking their names are Jump and Jehosaphat!

Poison ivy blues…

I made it into my 50s without ever experiencing the overwhelming ickiness of poison ivy.  It had been a while and I had completely forgotten how much it itches!  I spent the last two weekends pulling weeds in our mulched baby woods, very carefully avoiding what I knew was a patch of poison ivy.  Well, guess I wasn’t careful enough, because last week I started getting the little bumps and the infernal itching.  And despite laundering everything that might possibly have come into contact with it, it keeps getting worse and worse…my inner thighs, between my fingers, my arms…even on my face (thank goodness those three patches don’t itch).  Despite washing with Tecnu, drenching myself in rubbing alcohol, slathering myself with “itch relief gel” and popping rhus tox regularly, I am itching like crazy.  I have bruises on my leg from trying to scratch everywhere except those pesky poison ivy bumps.  ACK!!!!!  I may have to run into the drugstore before work and resort to an antihistimine.  I hate doing that, as I take so many prescription drugs and supplements, I worry about things interacting.  Hmmmm….itch or interact?  That is the question.

We welcomed two new kitties to our family today.  They are dilute calico sisters, one more white and the other more grey.  We haven’t named them yet…we’ll see what comes along.  Our kitty family is complete again.
